Is DSL the Same As Broadband?

This is a relatively simple question to answer, unfortunately, quite complicated. Whether DSL (digital subscriber line) broadband is really dependent on how you define "broadband". Different people define the word in different ways for different reasons, and the word itself does not have any one meaning.

What does broadband mean?

"Broadband" refers to a data transmission method that a relatively large (or wide) range (or band) of spectrum use divided into different channels. In simple layman terms, this means in essence that several pieces of data are sent simultaneously to increase the speed of data transfer.

A good analogy would be a water hose. Instead of the hose in your garden hose for a firefighter (which may deliver a higher quantity of water because the hose is larger), connect a dozen garden hoses together provide only as much water as the Fireman's> Hose. In a broadband Internet connection, your data line is not any bigger, you just have to work simultaneously on multiple lines.

Thus, the DSL broadband How?

The confusion about whether or not the same DSL broadband comes from the device, it will be used. The average user is currently running a high-speed Internet connection) as a slightly faster than a dial-up modem connection with a transfer speed of 56 kbps (kilobits per second. A dial --Modem uses a standard telephone line. A DSL modem uses a normal telephone line. How, then people ask, DSL may be faster than dial-up, if it uses the same equipment?

The answer is that, although they used the same telephone connection as a dial-up modem, DSL uses the phone lines differently. DSL provides more data on your computer by using several different frequencies (or band) simultaneously.

Their phone lines, for example, only the lower frequencies(below 4 kHz) to carry your voice over the line. The higher frequencies, however, remain unused. DSL uses these higher frequencies, they split into different bands, each of which is capable of transmitting data simultaneously on your computer. Here, too, think according to the garden hose.

By the technical definition of broadband data transmission, DSL is therefore uniquely qualified as broadband.

But is the same as broadband internet in terms of DSLSpeed?

Regardless of the technical electronics definition of "broadband" can be defined, the average person is usually a high-speed broadband Internet connection. As we mentioned earlier, high-speed "means basically just a little faster than a 56 kbps dial-up modem connection. According to this definition, DSL still so uniquely qualified as a broadband Internet connection. Even the slowest DSL connection-256-kbit / s over four and a half times faster than a dial-up connection. The fastest DSLPort-24, 000 kbit / s over 428-times faster than dial-up.

On the other hand, a technically savvy person, such as a network engineer setting up a new intranet network in an office building can be defined differently broadband, at a much higher rate of data transmission. In this case, a quick (and expensive) T-Online or fiber-optic Internet connection would be required. A DSL connection, no matter how fast, not easy enough.

In short, a broadband DSL connectionis more than fast enough for a personal home office network or Internet connection. For an entire office building, however, a DSL line is not likely as broadband. If you are just an individual looking for a home broadband Internet connection for web surfing, Internet game or a home-based business, you should with all the DSL bandwidth and speed you need at a far lower price than the industry T-level broadband lines or fiber optic connections.
